A Gay Affirmation this Holiday
Dear Angelo,
I have benefited a lot from reading your column
over the last year. What do you hope to do for gays?
Signed,
Grateful
Dear
Grateful,
Thank
you. I want gays to feel good about themselves and lead fulfilling lives.
Here's my Mission Statement - All my work is in the context of being gay
affirmative. This means I approach gayness as something that's positive, natural and healthy.
Most of our suffering comes from experiencing other people's negative
reaction to us being gay, and not from our being gay by nature.
I think all GLBT persons experience psychological / social
trauma because of the discriminatory gay stigma. We are unfairly
challenged by the toxic social atmosphere that's all around us, and are
negatively affected by the dysfunctional responses of others.
It is my
goal to help change this damaging experience for us gay persons by:
improving that poisonous atmosphere, to alleviate the symptoms and
discomfort of gay men who are suffering from these sensitive issues, as
well as to enhance our self acceptance, affirm self love, encourage our
personal growth, and improve our relationships. Visit
AskAngelo.com for more.
All The Best, Angelo.

Top 10 New Year's Resolutions
Dear Angelo,
I'm looking to turn over a new leaf next year.
What do you suggest?
Signed, Trying In Trenton
Dear
Trying In Trenton,
Here's my top 10 list of New Year's Resolutions.
I hope it helps you. Good luck.
1. Give Up A Bad Habit: smoking, drinking,
drugging, over-eating, over-sexing, etc.
2. Begin A Good Habit: dieting, exercising,
meditating, yoga, prayer, etc.
3. End A Bad Relationship: get out of
unhealthy relationships.
4. Renew A Broken Relationship: forgiveness,
solutions, moving forward together.
5. Start New Relationships: meet more friends,
date, join a new community that interests you.
6. Be Better With Money: spend less, budget, shop
less.
7. Do What You've Been Putting Off: finish that
project, take that class, join that group, take that trip, purchase it,
etc.
8. Make That Life Change: make the commitment,
get a pet, adopt, get a civil union, apply for that job, buy a home, car,
etc.
9. Start To Put Yourself First: it is not selfish
but essential that you put you into the equation for a change.
10. Stick To It: behavioral change can be hard.
Quote: "It takes a lot of courage to release the
familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real
security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the
adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change
there is power." - Alan Cohen .
All The Best, Angelo.
